According to recent Facebook and twitter posts, Santa has made special arrangements so he won’t miss this wonderful event.
Shop 'til you drop that evening and save while helping to raise money for local charity. Purchase this year’s collectable button and receive discounts, free gifts or special offers from participating merchants. Proceeds from the lapel pin sales go directly to the Arthritis Foundation. The special event attracts thousands of visitors to Old Town with live music and other entertainment, delicious aromas of hot chocolate and spicy treats wafting from area shops and restaurants, and the opportunity to shop for unique gifts at Old Town’s many shops and galleries, many offering special discounts.
At 5:30 p.m., visitors will gather at Plaza don Luis for the blessing and lighting of the giant holiday tree. Join San Felipe de Neri’s Father Garcia, Mayor Richard J. Berry and other dignitaries in the traditional lighting that marks the “official” beginning of the holiday season in Albuquerque.
At the Gazebo, live entertainment focused on holiday traditions from around the world, with colorfully costumed performers sharing their favorite traditions in many languages will be featured. The opportunity to “travel the world” by sharing in those traditions while experiencing the special treasure that is Albuquerque’s Old Town is priceless. All children will not want to miss the opportunity to meet Santa at Santa’s Village located on on San Felipe and Old Town Road from 6:30 to 9:00pm.
New Mexico’s beautiful luminaries will light the streets and patios and this year an added feature, fire pit stages, will add the aroma of pine to the wonderful holiday atmosphere.
Visitors are encouraged to use public transportation, and with a Rapid Ride stop at the southeast corner of Central Avenue and Rio Grande Blvd., Old Town is accessible to all ages.
